Casalegno Tendaggi S.p.A founded its first mill over 60 years ago in the medieval heart of Chieri where, right back since ancient times, each home was said to have a loom run by the family. The narrow, winding streets were enchantered by the echo of throbbing looms. Gradually, small artisan businesses developed and consequently industries, still family-owned.

The rapid growth of the Casalegno Tendaggi business was accompanied by moments of tragedy such as the fire in 1957 and of satisfaction when in 1960, the company was awarded with the mark of distinction: "La Scala d'Oro" and when the first pieces were exported. The expansion through export was tumultuous and today over 50 countries around the world consume Casalegno Tendaggi goods.

Participation of important exhibitions throughout the continents of America, Australia, Asia and Europe have added to its success. Casalegno Tendaggi specialised in the production of sheer curtain fabrics up until the early '90s, afterwhich their experience and know-how developed the weave of heavier, multi-purpose fabrics suitable for curtaining and upholstery. This progress gave way to continual up-grade of machinery "d'avant garde" such as the installation of the first fully-equipped, computerised, jacquard looms for the production of wide-width upholstery fabric

Chieri must surely be considered one of the most prestigious cities of Piedmont, thanks to the many churches and buildings that can tell stories of centuries of culture and glorious events. Numerous restorations under-way in the historical centre and new, recent foundings of romanic and Middle Age remains call the attention of experts and passionate tourists.

The era of major splendour was the Middle Ages. The importance of this period is present and visible through rare buildings of artistic and refined beauty, the homes of rich merchants. The remarkably flourishing economy was achieved through weaving and dyeing a cotton fabric called fustian. The textile tradition has been kept alive up until our days and is still one of the major activities of Chieri, now producing a variety of fabrics for garments and interior decoration, trimmings, braids etc.
